Building on its electric offensive, VW is not only planning the ID.Polo compact car but also a compact electric SUV. The ID.2 X, also known as the ID.2all SUV study, is set to carry the torch from the T-Cross under the production name VW ID.CROSS. Following its debut ahead of IAA 2025 in Munich, where it will also be on display, the production model is anticipated for summer 2026.

  • Production Model Unveil: Scheduled for Summer 2026.
  • Market Launch: Expected late 2026.

VW ID.CROSS Concept: Design – "Pure Positive" Aesthetics

For the ID.CROSS, Volkswagen has embraced its new "Pure Positive" design language, aiming to blend stability, warmth, and distinctive charm. This philosophy lends the new models a friendly and clear presence. Dimensionally, the ID.CROSS Concept is very close to the current VW T-Cross:

  • Length: 4,161 mm
  • Width: 1,839 mm
  • Height: 1,588 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,601 mm

The ID.Cross front end features slim headlights and an illuminated VW logo, defining its modern electric identity.

The front fascia already showcases strong family ties with Volkswagen's electric lineup, featuring a flush, horizontal design. Slim headlights combined with an illuminated front logo instantly identify the ID.CROSS as a VW SUV. A stylized black underbody protection further reinforces the clean, segmented structure of the front.

From the side, its dynamic character is striking, accentuated by a roof spoiler and horizontal "gills" on the rear roof pillar. These elements subtly echo the design of the iconic VW Bus and the new ID.Buzz, and are even illuminated at night. The impressive 21-inch rims, seamlessly integrated with highlighted wheel arches, add to its bold profile.

The rear view consistently reinforces its VW affiliation. A continuous light strip, an illuminated logo, and the model lettering positioned beneath it unmistakably mark it as a Volkswagen. The clean and structured design is maintained at the rear, with sharp design lines flowing into a prominent diffuser directly below the tailgate.

VW ID.CROSS Concept: Drive, Performance, and Range

The concept car is equipped with a 211 hp electric motor driving the front wheels. While specific battery details for the concept are yet to be fully disclosed, the estimated WLTP range is an impressive 420 km.

For the later production ID.CROSS, Volkswagen plans to offer three power levels: 160 hp, 190 hp, and 225 hp. The most powerful variant is likely reserved for a potential GTI model. Given its close relation to the ID.Polo, it's expected that the ID.CROSS will utilize a 56 kWh battery. This configuration should also support 125 kW fast charging, aligning with the projected 420 km range. We will provide updates as more details become available.

VW ID.CROSS Concept: Interior – An Oasis of Well-being

Inside the VW ID.CROSS, future passengers are intended to experience an "oasis of well-being." The minimalist interior design evokes a sense of calm, more akin to a spa retreat than a car cabin. Alongside this serene atmosphere, designers have prioritized usability.

Central to the controls are two screens: an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch infotainment display, complemented by a physical switch strip. The new multifunction steering wheel, with its integrated button controls, is also designed for intuitive operation.

Features like ambient lighting and a "Calm" mode, which reduces screen clutter to a minimum, are designed to promote relaxation and de-stress passengers. A unique "relax mode" for the seats allows them to form a completely flat lying surface, enabling more comfortable breaks during longer journeys.

Practicality has not been overlooked. The ID.CROSS Concept offers a generous 450 liters of trunk space and a handy 25-liter 'frunk' (front trunk). Combined with an airy interior and numerous storage compartments, the VW ID.CROSS is well-suited for both city driving and extended road trips.

VW ID.CROSS Concept: Production Model Unveil and Pricing

The ID.CROSS production model is slated for an official unveiling in summer 2026, forming a crucial part of Volkswagen's significant electric car offensive, which also includes the ID.Polo and ID.Polo GTI from 2026 onwards. While specific pricing for the ID.CROSS has not yet been announced, Volkswagen has indicated a commitment to affordable electromobility. Given that the ID.Polo compact car is expected to start around €25,000, the ID.CROSS SUV could potentially launch at approximately €30,000.
